Who we are

Our Beginnings

Coachella Valley Youth Leadership (CVYL) was formed by a group of ten mentors in 2013 to support the healing and mentorship of young men in eastern Riverside County. CVYL would meet monthly at the Boys & Girls Club in Mecca and provide a space for young males to participate in our healing circles.  Over time, every mentor was trained by the National Compadres Network in the Joven Noble Curriculum. We served and provided a space for young people to deal with their traumas; an estimated 30 youths monthly.

We learned that many youths came from single households where they did not have a male presence or father. Furthermore, youth were struggling with substance abuse, violence in home, gang violence in their community and staying out of trouble at school.

Over the years, Coachella Valley Youth Leadership has worked with nearly one thousand young men. Although our youth's needs still remain, so too does our commitment to develop them.
